Commitment to Sustainability

Mercure hotels are carbon neutral with a commitment to making the world a better place. Greenhouse gases produced are offset by funding renewable energy sources through the Carbon Reduction Institute. Mercure fund the cost of the offsets and do not pass them on to you. Our hotel follows the Accor global environmental charter to reduce energy and water consumption and improve waste management and recycling.

The hotel has removed single-use plastic throughout, with the implementation of complimentary filtered and sparkling water Purezza taps, as well as refillable and reusable bathroom amenities in rooms.

The hotel has also shifted to digitisation, to reduce the use of paper, through new state of the art self check-in kiosks, as well as digital compendium and in-room dining menu, available via QR code.

Mercure Newcastle has also partnered with Huskee to provide guests with a recyclable, and reusable coffee cup, uniquely made from the husk of a coffee bean. The hotel is proud to be one of the first in Australia to introduce this cup, to be used at multiple touch-points throughout the hotel.
